Tahitian Pearls

Black Tahitian pearls are product by the Black-Lipped oyster (Pinctada margaritifera), raised in the waters of French Polynesia. The shape, color and luster of certified cultured Black Tahitian pearls are entirely natural, never enhanced.

Luster

Tahitian pearls luster sometimes has a metallic sheen, which is a very unique character especially when it has other colored overtones.

Surface

Tahitian pearls have a wide range of surface qualities such as spots, bumps, pits, wrinkles and rings. As with all pearls with long cultivation periods, Tahitian pearls possess surface imperfections that often add interest and allure.

Shape

Less than half of Tahitian pearls are round resulting in a large amount of unique shapes, such as drop, baroque and ringed.

Color

Tahitian pearls are known for their iridescent, vibrant, almost metallic colors. They have body colors such as black, grey, silver, green, and blue with an endless amount of overtones.

Size

The size of Tahitian pearls range from 8 – 18 millimeters (average size is 9-10mm), but there are some extremes. The largest Tahitian ever found was 25 millimeters!

Matching

It's more difficult to match Tahitian pearls because so few are produced and all have unique qualities (especially color). Therefore, a high quality strand will require a higher cost.
